On January 8, 2022 six bands will scrap. Two will head north to Seattle for the semi final round.  Dante’s is the place.  Tickets on sale now.

MIRP had a chance to talk with Hideous Monster.

Hideous Monster is a band from Portland, Oregon. Combining unique elements of Horror Rock and Metal. Hideous Monster has created an individual sound and brand inspired by all things supernatural and of course horror.

MIRP: Tell me what it would mean to you to perform at Wacken 2022?

HM:  It would mean that hard work definitely pays off. It would also mean that others recognize the love and passion that goes into our music, that is one of the greatest honors an artist/musician can ever hope to have.

MIRP: Sizing up your competition in a friendly manner…who are you most worried about?

HM: To be honest, I am not worried at all, may the best band win. I will  just let our music speak for itself.

MIRP:  During the Covid 19 pandemic, what highs or lows did the band experience?

HM: The highs were when we had time to get an album done in the studio. We have since started writing new material. The lows were definitely having to cancel shows and not being able to play live! That’s where we shine.

MIRP: Playing this battle of the bands…what will you do differently now that there is a big prize at stake?

HM: Prize or not we give 100% every time, so nothing.

MIRP: If you are chosen as the band to go to Wacken, how do you feel about performing in front of 75,000 – 100,000 people?

HM: We would be honored. That would be an amazing dream come true!

MIRP: Who was the first band that made you want to be a musician?

HM: Kiss.

MIRP: If you could only pick two bands to listen to for the next year, who would you choose?

HM: That is hard, but I never get tired of Slayer and Kiss.

MIRP: Tell me what the dream is if you were chosen to play at Wacken 2022?

HM: The dream would be to perform “Hideous Monsters” music for thousands of people. Also the travel experience would be amazing!

MIRP: In the list of performers below, who have you seen before?

HM: Hideous Monster has actually opened up for Doyle a few times. I’ve seen Judas Priest, Lacuna Coil, Gwar, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, and All Hail The Yeti.

MIRP:  What is currently in your playlist?

HM: Kiss, Misfits, Doyle, Cannibal Corpse, Carach Angren, Wednesday13, Gorgoroth.

MIRP:  What would people be surprised to know you listen to?

HM: Olivia Newton John. I love her.

MIRP:  Preparing for the Battle in January, what is the emotion most felt by the band?

HM: The emotion most felt by the band is excitement & antici…pation, with a small splash of fear.

MIRP:  Regarding the Battle in January, have you already picked the music you’ll play?

HM: Oh yeah!

MIRP:  What goes into picking the music?  Heaviest?  Oldest?  Newest? Most Technical?

HM: The songs that we feel are going to strike a chord with the audience. The songs we feel will connect with our audience the most.

MIRP:  What do you think it is about your band that would be the best fit?

HM: The uniqueness of the band. The reason is Hideous Monster is not generic or what you would expect. Our songs are blended with horror, metal and rock. We are bringing back old school sing-along choruses.

MIRP:  Any final words?

HM: Thank you so much for this opportunity.  We are looking forward to January 8th. See you then.
