Recently signed to Mighty Music, (Scandanavian premier rock and metal label,) Italy’s Modern Thrashers Sawthis have released "This String Is For Your Neck," their first single and video for their fourth album, “Babhell,” being released onMarch 24, 2017.
The video starts out with an ominous lightbulb buzzing on and off, swinging slightly in the pitch blackness. Is it a metaphor for the mind? Is it torture? Is it optimism or pessimism? The band has left that decision up to you, the viewer.
The video matches the pace of the song well. It is creatively shot and edited by UnderRoom Studios. It features edgy camera angles of all members playing individually, juxtaposed with interesting peeks into what the song is ultimately about. The consistent spattering of the buzzing light and spastic clock aide in the atmosphere of chaos. It is raw, yet refined. It is uncomfortable yet beautiful. It is full of angst while maintaining strength. It is intense and eclectic. It portrays personal demons, choice, time, alternate reality, all the while highlighting the band at a level of intensity that is only matched by their live shows. The song is melodic, well written, well played, and well produced.
My prediction is that “Babhell” will be this release that propels Sawthis to the level of success that they highly deserve. You’d be hard pressed to find a band that is more hard working, dedicated, and passionate about what they do. I personally can’t wait to hear the entire album and see what they do next. Check it out for yourself below.
